These 40 years had seen the defeat of Ottoman Turkey in the war of 1876-77, the declaration of the Kingdom of Romania and increasing prosperity and stability. The exhibition aimed to display Romanian achievements in technology and design and to produce a Romanian national style. The notion of Romanian descent from Trajan’s Imperial Roman settlers of AD106 played an important part in the creation of a sense of Romanian history, continuity and differentiation from her Slav neighbours.
