matot patys be kaspinėlio padevėtas Apie apdovanojimą: the face with the figures of a huntsman, a soldier and a blacksmith before a plough and a cog-wheel, a village beyond, a female figure to the left, circumscribed ‘EXPOZITIUNEA GENERALA ROMANA DIN BUCURESTI’ (General Romanian Exhibition at Bucharest) and dated ‘1906’; the reverse with the heads of the Emperor Trajan (left) and King Carol I (right) circumscribed ‘TRAJAN MARELE IMPERATOR CAROL I. PRIMUL REGE AL ROMANIEI’ (Trajan Great Emperor Carol I First King of Romania), dated ‘1866’, ‘106’ and ‘1906’; diameter 30mm (1⅛ inches); A great exhibition was held in Bucharest in 1906 to mark the 40th anniversary of the ascension of Carol I to the Romanian throne. These 40 years had seen the defeat of Ottoman Turkey in the war of 1876-77, the declaration of the Kingdom of Romania and increasing prosperity and stability. The exhibition aimed to display Romanian achievements in technology and design and to produce a Romanian national style. The notion of Romanian descent from Trajan’s Imperial Roman settlers of AD106 played an important part in the creation of a sense of Romanian history, continuity and differentiation from her Slav neighbours.
